I've updated the table of results for the Championship races following the Helsby 1/2M - see RR Champs 2013-14.xlsx (11.04 KB). Please let me know if you spot any errors. Note that I've used the gun times to determine the Helsby places. Remember that it's your best 4 races to count and there are trophies to be won! The Chester Spring 5 is the next race which is a couple of months away and so gives plenty of opportunity to optimise your training for that distance . Steve

What do you mean you used the gun time!! We were all wearing timing chips and Helsby worked out the placings from those - just because Martin Hilton muscled his way to the front whilst I was helping poor injured Tanker over the starting line and so started 2 mins behind him (you'll back me up Rob? a tenner in it for you) means I lose a point? They're valuable things those Steve. I'm stunned...as one of our group would remark.

Helsby have actually used the gun time for the placings, but I agree with you anyway as I was also robbed out of a hard-earned point as Neirin elbowed his way past any survivors Martin hadn't already trampled over, cynically crushing my dreams of a top nine finish.

Sorry Dave, I sympathise with your view but have to go with convention , like the Cheshire RR Grand Prix - see attached Essar Four Villages Half Marathon 2014.xls (540 KB)
You just need to out-muscle Mr Hilton for a space at the front in the remaining races!

That's so bizarre. Will you be amending the results to reflect chip times when Helsby produce their results booklet...because that's what they do.

I,m with you Dave with several thousand runners all jockeying for position at the chaotic start it seems grossly unfair to be penalised for not being able to start a race of that size on an equal footing, surely chip times are a more accurate way to gauge finish positions.

We're not the first to have this debate! - see gun time v chip timeI'm sure the TR committee will be happy to discuss a proposal that chip times should be used (when available) for the TR Road Championship .

See attached file for an update on the championship following the Chester Spring 5. RR Champs 2013-14.xlsx (11.65 KB) Only one man and no ladies have yet completed 4 races (the qualifying number) and so the trophies are very much at stake with the following two races remaining: Chester Half Marathon. Sunday May 18th, 2014 Christleton 5k. Friday May 23rd, 2014
